As we normally do on a daily basis, we played Mac’s favorite game last night.
Here’s how it goes: either Dave or I duck down behind the couch and suddenly pop out of one side. Mac gets scared and runs to the other side. Repeat 1,000 times…
…or until Mac passes out and/or our knees have rug burn. He seriously loves this and could do it for hours! Silly pup.
I may have used this lovely holiday as an excuse to eat chocolate for breakfast. Not that I ever needed an excuse before…
I intended on buying strawberries the other day to cut in the shape of hearts because I’m cheesy like that… BUT the grocery store was SOLD OUT. Can you believe it? I guess they’re a hot commodity around V-day and not just the chocolate covered ones.
Oh well, raspberries are red and festive too. 🙂
Bottom layer of bananas and raspberries, topped with Greek yogurt, more raspberries on top. Plus Ghiradelli dark chocolate chips and melty drippy Barney Butter Almond Butter. This is some seriously good stuff right here.
M&M Red Velvet Cake Bars
It feels like forever since I baked anything so I took the opportunity to bake something festive.
With the help of some red velvet box cake mix, the pre-baking preparation only took me about 5 minutes. Not bad.
M&M Red Velvet Cake Bars
1 box red velvet cake mix (22 oz)
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup M&Ms
Preheat oven to 350. Using a standing or hand mixer, combine first three ingredients until moistened. Stir in M&Ms by hand. (I also saved some to sprinkle on top.) Mixture will be very thick. In a greased 13×9 baking pan, spread evenly out to the edges as best you can. (I had to use my fingers.) Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for 20 minutes before digging in.
These were a bit of an experiment and I’d say they turned out pretty well! They are a little bit fluffy and not overly sweet. Most of the sweetness comes from the M&Ms.
I usually have class on Thursday nights but my teacher surprised us last week by canceling class tonight! Although our midterm is due today and I’ve been working on it all week, it feels good that I’ll be able to relax tonight. More importantly, I’m excited to go out for dinner with my Valentine! 🙂
Around this time of year 7 years ago, Dave and I met so its double the reason to celebrate tonight.
And of course, I can’t forget to mention my other Valentine.
Notice our matching fabrics? I picked him up from his play date yesterday where he also got a bath and his nails trimmed and he had a bandanna adorned with pink hearts tied around his neck.
In my head, I did question if they remembered he was a boy. But who knows, maybe they were thrown off by the manicure or the spa day. 😉 It was cute nonetheless!
