Bakin’ Bacon

Hope everyone’s Saturday is off to a excellent start!  Mine started off a bit slow-moving but otherwise it’s pretty darn good so far.

Dave and I had a blast at the Blackhawks game last night!  Plus, they won and continued their amazing streak, making it that much better.

Dave set up a friendly competition among the salesmen at his work:  whoever had the highest sales last month got a free ticket to the Blackhawks game, along with his sales manager.

Not a bad little deal, if I may say so myself… I didn’t sell a thing and somehow I managed to tag along!

Bakin’ Bacon

Sooo I’ve never been a HUGE fan of bacon.  Unlike my brother who could (and would) wolf down an entire pound of bacon growing up, I’ve just never enjoyed eating plain bacon at breakfast.

BUT don’t me wrong, I love the smokey, salty flavors!  The inclusion of bacon in salads, sandwiches and other recipes can really step up a dish.  However, I really dislike the mess it creates with the grease splattering everywhere and I’ve had a hard time cooking it “just right”, so I tend to shy away from it.

Well, I guess until now!

Look at that perfection!  I followed Martha Stewart’s suggestion to cook it in the oven, as opposed to other methods, and it fixed the mess problem AND cooked it perfectly crisp.

Bacon (however much you want)

1.  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (or foil probably works too) and add bacon in a single layer.

Raw Bacon

2.  Put the baking sheet in a cold oven and set the temperature to 400 degrees.  Cook for about 18-20 minutes and remove.

3.  Carefully layer bacon between paper towels to soak up the excess grease.

How easy is that?!  <— Name that cooking show!

Afterwards, I let the pan cool, threw away the parchment paper, wiped down the baking sheet and tada!

No mess!  Now that’s my kinda cooking! 😉

Pete still eats a pound of bacon all the time and it is sooo messy! We have wasted so many jars and cups to the bacon fat. He fills them up and we end up throwing them away when they are full. 😦 I am excited to tell him about this method of cooking it. Solves all our bacon problems. Thanks Lauren!!
